Mykhailo Drapatyi, the head of Ukraine’s armed forces, condemned the violence against Ukrainian military personnel after two soldiers were killed on Saturday.
“Killing military personnel far from combat zones crosses a red line. We mustn’t ignore the growing wave of contempt towards the defenders of our nation,” Drapatyi stated on Facebook. He urged authorities to ensure these crimes do not go unpunished.
An explosion in a military recruitment office in Rivne, north-western Ukraine, killed one person and injured six others on Saturday. In the Poltava region, a soldier was shot dead on the same day at a conscription office. Drapatyi described it as “intolerable” for society to remain silent about violence against those defending the country from the Russian invasion. He noted other instances of humiliation and aggression against the military.
Ukraine has been at war with Russia for nearly three years. “Today, we face armed attacks. Without a strong response, there will be more deaths. We must show greater respect for those who risk their lives to defend our homes,” he added.
