Over 47% of the electricity generated last year in the European Union came from renewable energy sources, according to Eurostat.
This was a 2.6% increase compared to 2023, the European statistical office reported on Wednesday.
Most of the renewable electricity was generated from wind energy.
Denmark and Portugal led the way, producing 89% and 87% of their electricity, respectively, from sustainable sources.
At the other end of the scale, Malta (15%) and the Czech Republic (18%) lagged behind.
Wind energy accounted for 39% of the total electricity produced from renewable sources in the EU.
Hydropower contributed 30%, while solar energy made up 22%.
