European Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič will travel to Washington on Monday to discuss tariffs with the Trump administration.
A spokesperson for the European Commission announced the trip on Friday.
The European Union hopes to reach an agreement to "avoid tariffs and any damaging escalation on both sides of the Atlantic," said European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill.
Following President Trump's climb down on Wednesday, the EU confirmed it will "pause" its countermeasures to Trump's tariffs for 90 days, in order to give "negotiations a chance".
"If the negotiations are not satisfactory, our countermeasures will come into effect," European Commission President von der Leyen warned in a message on social media.
