There were an average of 156.4 hospital admissions per day due to Covid-19 between 9 and 15 March, an increase of 9% compared to the previous reference period, according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated on Wednesday morning.
A total of 2,182 people positive for the coronavirus are currently hospitalised, including 180 patients treated in intensive care (-9%).
Overall infections rose by 30%
Between 6 and 12 March, an average of 8,075 new infections were detected per day, up by 30% compared to the previous week.
Over the same period, an average of 19 people died per day while carrying the virus (-2%), bringing the total to 30,472 deaths since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.

An average of 34,800 tests were also carried out daily, with a positive rate of 25.3%.
The reproduction rate of the virus is 1.08. When higher than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to accelerate.
The incidence, which indicates the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 867 over 14 days.
