Coronavirus infection rates and hospitalisations are rising in Belgium, but patients in intensive care units are on the decrease according to the latest data published by Sciensano, Belgium’s Public Health Institute, on Saturday morning.
Between 16 and 22 March, 10,561 infections were recorded on average per day, a 17% increase compared to the previous week.
Hospital admissions increased to an average of 192 (+16%) patients per day between 19 and 25 March.
On Friday, a total of 2,680 patients suffering from coronavirus were in Belgian hospitals (+16%), with 165 (-3%) in intensive care.
The reproduction rate (Rt) is at 1.11. This figure represents the average number of people that contract the virus from each infected person, and when it is above 1, it means that the epidemic is gaining ground.
