Two people were killed in a shooting incident around 18:00 on Wednesday at the McDonald's in Zwolle in the Netherlands.
Other customers were also present in the fast food establishment during the shooting and while the perpetrator has not yet been caught, a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of involvement, reports RTV Oost.
Eyewitnesses say a man entered the restaurant and ordered food, then sat down next to the victims and opened fire on them. The victims are 57 and 62 years old and are from Zwolle.
The staff of the restaurant were taken to safety. Police will not yet comment on the circumstances of the shooting.
Reactions of shock, reports of feeling unsafe in the area
Peter Snijders, mayor of Zwolle, reacted with shock to the incident.
“My thoughts are with all those affected and the relatives of the victims and with everyone who has been an uninvited eyewitness to it,” he said, adding that he too cannot yet comment on the circumstances of the incident.
Initially, the police reported that there was one fatality. Later it turned out there were two.
After the incident, officers in bullet-proof vests arrived on the scene and a police helicopter circled above the area. A trauma helicopter was also called in, but the victims could not be resuscitated.

According to RTV Oost, the families of the victims were quickly at the scene. The area around the McDonald's where the fatal incident took place has been cordoned off for investigation, according to the police. The police are still looking for eyewitnesses.
The shooting incident took place near the Zwolle-Noord exit, where another person was stabbed last Sunday. For the time being, there does not appear to be a connection between the two incidents, but residents do say that they feel unsafe in the area.
