Over two tonnes of cocaine hidden in a container were seized in the port of Le Havre in northwestern France on 30 December.

The French judiciary reported that a 22-year-old dockworker and a 41-year-old truck driver were charged on Friday.

French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau stated on X that the seizure demonstrates that “the war against drug trafficking is intensifying day by day.”

Between January and November 2024, nearly 45 tonnes of cocaine were seized in France, double the amount confiscated in 2023, according to the French police.

In 2023, police arrested over 18,100 drug dealers, while in the first 10 months of 2024, they apprehended 17,300.
