BMWs were the most popular passenger cars in Belgium in 2022: with 38,011 new registrations, they accounted for 10.38% of the market.
Second place went to Volkswagen (32,061 registrations), followed by Mercedes (29,283), Peugeot (29,140) and Audi (26,253), according to figures from the Belgian and Luxembourg Automobile and Two-wheeler Federation, Febiac.
Although BMW registered 2.44% fewer new passenger cars last year, the German luxury car maker continues to lead the pack. Volkswagen and Audi also fared worse last year, with new registrations for their cars plunging by 6.66% and 6.29% respectively.
The market as a whole dropped by 4.39% to end the year on 366,303 registrations, the lowest level since 1995.
In contrast, new registrations of Mercedes and Peugeot cars went up by 6.39% and 2.32% respectively. Other car brands that recorded increases in 2022 included Toyota (+34.60%), Dacia (+10.02%), Kia (+13.60%), Mini (+3.28%) and Tesla (+46.81%).
