The Belgian Football Union, URBSFA, paid tribute on Thursday evening to former internationals Vincent Kompany, Thomas Vermaelen and Moussa Dembélé just before the start of the UEFA Nations League match against Wales, which the Red Devils went on to win by 2 goals to 1.

The trio took to the pitch to address the spectators at the King Baudouin Stadium and received congratulations from CEO Peter Bossaert.

The game against Wales was the Devils' last match on Belgian soil before the FIFA World Cup in Qatar (20 November - 18 December).

Vincent Kompany played the last of his 89 international matches in June 2019 against Scotland, which Belgium won by 3-0. He has since become the coach of Burnley, an English second division club, after a spell at the helm of Anderlecht.

Last year's 1-2 European Championship quarter-final loss to Italy was the last of Thomas Vermaelen's 85 caps. He ended his career in January this year and became an assistant to national coach Roberto Martinez.

Moussa Dembélé (82 caps) made his last appearance for the Red Devils in September 2018 in their 3-0 victory in Iceland. He decided to stop playing football in the spring.
