Nafissatou Thiam was elected Sportswoman of the Year 2022 on Friday evening in Antwerp.
The world and European heptathlon champion was not present in the metropolis to receive her award. She is in South Africa preparing for the 2023 season with her new coach Michael Van der Plaetsen.
However, she reacted after her fourth such award in a short video broadcast during the ceremony. “Thank you for this award. It’s a very, very big honour for me,” she said. “The year 2022 was a great year but of course I want more.
“There are still big challenges ahead and I am working hard to hopefully try to achieve them,” Nafi Thiam added. “Thank you again for this award. A very happy and successful New Year to all.”
