Ukraine has now restored half of the capacity of its power plants that were destroyed by Russia.
Ukrainian Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, announced this on Monday at a joint meeting of the Ukrainian government and the European Commission, three years after the start of the Russian aggression.
“Of the ten gigawatts, we have reinjected five into the system,” Ukrainian news agency Interfax-Ukraine quoted Minister Halushchenko as saying.
The restoration of capacity was made possible by a support fund for the energy industry that has received more than €1 billion in financing.
The Russian army has extensively attacked Ukrainian infrastructure with missiles and drones, causing massive power outages across the country.
