The White House has condemned Elon Musk, owner of social network X (formerly Twitter), for his “abhorrent promotion of antisemitic and racist hate.”

Musk recently endorsed a post on X stating that Jews are pushing hatred against Whites, adding the comment: “You have said the actual truth.”

The billionaire’s remark was particularly harmful, White House spokesman Andrew Bates said, considering the rise in antisemitic incidents since the war between Israel and Hamas.

“We all have a responsibility to bring people together against hate, and an obligation to speak out against anyone who attacks the dignity of their fellow Americans and compromises the safety of our communities,” Bates said in a statement.

He added it was “unacceptable” to repeat such lies.

Many businesses and organisations, including the European Commission, IBM, and Lions Gate Entertainment, have suspended their ads on X in protest against the increase in misinformation and hate messages there.

Even Tesla investors have criticised Musk, accusing him of potentially damaging the car brand’s reputation.

Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz has called on the billionaire to resign from his position as chief executive of the electric vehicle manufacturer.

Following the criticism and the announcements by the European Commission and major companies to suspend advertising on X, Elon Musk changed his mind. In a message on Friday on X, he wrote:

“As I said earlier this week, “decolonization”, “from the river to the sea” and similar euphemisms necessarily imply genocide. Clear calls for extreme violence are against our terms of service and will result in suspension."
