Over seven million contraband cigarettes bound for the European Union and the United Kingdom have been seized in Greece, according to the Greek Transport Ministry, Belga News Agency reports.
The cigarettes were discovered on Saturday in the western port of Igoumenitsa in a refrigerated truck hidden behind thousands of pots of yoghurt.
The driver of the truck, a 64-year-old foreigner whose nationality was not given, has been arrested.
The ministry said that, according to the information it has so far, the shipment was bound for the illegal cigarette market in various EU countries and Britain.
It would have cost the targeted countries over a million and a half euros in lost taxes.
