The United Arab Emirates’ Dubai-based carrier, Emirates, has placed a huge order for 95 aeroplanes worth $52 billion from US manufacturer Boeing at the Gulf Dubai air show.
The purchase consists of fifty-five Boeing 777-9 planes, thirty-five 777-8 aircraft and five 787 Dreamliner airplanes.
The deal, which adds to a previous order, symbolises Dubai’s commitment to aviation’s future, according to Emirates CEO Ahmed ben Saeed Al Maktoum.
Although the order’s value is predicated on list prices, hefty discounts are typically provided for bulk orders.
The Dubai Air Show began on Monday.
Emirates operates as the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates and is the world’s largest provider of intercontinental flights. The company says it aims to meet strong air transport demand and renew its fleet with these new planes.
At the same event, Boeing also received orders from airlines SunExpress – for 45 of its 737 MAX planes, worth over $5 billion at list price – and from FlyDubai.
