Two nurses were taken hostage in the Forensic Psychiatric Centre (FPC) in Antwerp on Thursday night, the public prosecutor’s office in Antwerp confirms.
The FPC in Antwerp holds 182 patients, both men and women, who have committed offences because of a mental disorder but do not belong in prison.

The hostage started on Thursday evening around 9:30 PM, when the nurses were locked in a room and windows were taped off. After intense negotiations with the police, the first hostage was freed around 1:45 AM and the second around 4:30 AM. Both victims were unharmed.
Three hostage-takers were involved, of 24, 35 and 44 years old. They will appear before the investigative judge later on Friday.
The Brussels Times
