Belgium’s coronavirus information hotline handled 780,000 calls in 2021, crisis centre spokesman Yves Stevens said Friday.

Since the beginning of the crisis, the total has reached 1.54 million calls.

The free hotline was opened on 3 February 2020, at the same time as the info-coronavirus.be website. In the first year, 761,188 calls were handled.

The figures show increases in calls after each Consultation Committee: in 2021, the peaks were reached in October after the announcement of the Covid Safe Ticket, in November for requests related to the end-of-year celebrations and in June and July for information on the holidays.

In contrast, January and September were very quiet.

The line (0800/14.689) is available 7 days a week, from 9:00 to 18:00.
