Brussels-Ixelles police estimate more than 500 people attended the opening of the first Belgian Apple store, which opened at 10am on Saturday. It is located at 26-28 avenue de la Toison d’Or in Ixelles.
One person had been camping in front of the store since Thursday evening. Police said there were around a dozen people camping in front of the store the day before the opening. Around a hundred people were queuing up from 7am on Saturday morning. By midday, there were 300.
The public’s recent passion for Apple was encouraged by the store’s employees, who formed a line and applauded each customer who walked through the door.
Marks and Spencer handed out apples to people in the street to welcome its new neighbour.
