From Thursday evening onwards a webcam will make it possible to see a giant purple arum from the Ghent university botanical garden bloom. The flowering of a giant arum takes place in 2 stages. “The first evening we will see a small female bloom,” explains Professor Paul Goetghebeur. “The second evening, we will see the male flower.” “The 2 flowers are hidden by the large purple spathe. We will show the flowering inside this wide leaf by using mirrors.” The event is not to be missed, on the website https://users.ugent.be/~gnootens.
