Hundreds of protesters marched 60 kilometres, from Belgrade to Novi Sad, to denounce corruption in Serbia.

The country has been gripped by significant social movements since a concrete canopy collapsed on 1 November at a station in Novi Sad, Serbia’s second-largest city, killing 15 people.

According to the marchers, the government and the administration led by President Aleksandar Vučić bear significant responsibility for that accident.

The procession was warmly welcomed in the villages it passed through, with participants receiving food and drinks. However, they could not find accommodation in Indija, a small town halfway along the route, as the mayor refused to make the sports complex available.

As a result, the marchers slept outside in a sports field.

Since the Novi Sad accident, students have been demonstrating nearly every day, blocking roads and universities. They are demanding that political and judicial authorities fully investigate the causes of the accident.

Despite the resignation of Prime Minister Miloš Vučević three days ago, the protests show no sign of abating.
