Another investigation has been opened into an incident that reportedly occurred in early September involving the leader of the Flemish socialist Vooruit party Conner Rousseau, confirmed the East Flanders Public Prosecutor's Office on Thursday.
The investigation concerns defamation of the police during the Vredesfeesten festivities in Rousseau's hometown of Sint-Niklaas on the night of 1 to 2 September, where Rousseau allegedly insulted some officers at a bar and used racist language, Het Laatste Nieuws reports.
Rousseau himself was not arrested, but a report of the incident was drawn up. In a reaction to the news, he told VTM that he had not been informed that the Public Prosecutor's Office had started an investigation.

"I did go to a café in Sint-Niklaas that day and spoke to several police officers there. I had drunk too much, but in my memory, the tenor of those conversations was rather joking and friendly," he said.
"I do not remember exactly what was said, but what was written about it surprises me very much," Rousseau added. "I hope that the Public Prosecutor's Office will invite me soon so that I can quickly get clarity about what exactly is going on."
The East Flanders Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that it has been notified of an incident and that an investigation has been started, but will not comment further on the situation.
