Belgium’s Red Flames have been eliminated from the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 football championship in England. The Belgian squad lost 0-1 to Sweden in the quarterfinals on Friday evening in Leigh.
The Scandinavians, number two on the FIFA rankings, booked their place in the semi-final with a late stoppage-time goal by Linda Sembrandt.
This was the second time the 'Flames' (FIFA 19) participated in the European Championship. Five years ago, they were eliminated in the group phase in the Netherlands.
Sweden will face England in the semi-finals in Sheffield on Tuesday 26 July. The hosts defeated Spain 2-1 on Wednesday in extra time.
