The striker, who made the switch from Brussels club Union Saint-Gilles last winter, came under heavy fire last weekend after allegedly using the n-word.
Jeremy Ebobisse, who plays for the opposing team, stated after the match that the remark was presumably not directed at him but still made him feel "powerless." The match was stopped for over 20 minutes but resumed afterwards with Vanzeir still on the field.
Afterwards, the club announced that Vanzeir would step aside indefinitely "to avoid further distraction."
