Union Saint-Gilloise drew 1-1 with Genk in the Jupiler Pro League’s championship play-offs on Sunday, leaving them with the same number of points as current leaders Royal Antwerp.

With both teams scoring in the first half of the match, USG held their ground at the away fixture against the team that had led the league throughout the regular season.

Genk’s defender Mark McKenzie put the Flemish side 1-0 ahead in the 13th minute before Victor Boniface equalised for Union in the 39th minute. The game slowed in the second half with neither side threatening the other before sharing the points after the final whistle.

Antwerp managed to retain its top spot in the standings despite a 2-0 loss to fourth-placed Club Brugge. USG is due to face Royal Antwerp next Sunday in a match that will determine this season’s winner of the Jupiler Pro League.

If Antwerp beats USG they will secure the league title. Union has the chance to go ahead in the standings if they win.
