A resident of Montebelluna, in northern Italy, suffered the fright of her life when she discovered that her cleaning lady had thrown away an old mattress containing some of her valuables, the daily Tribuna di Treviso reported on Monday.
According to the local newpaper, the mattress contained money and jewels worth around €50,000. The unsuspecting cleaner took the visibly worn mattress from her employer's garage and dumped it at the local waste collection centre.
A few hours later, the owner of the mattress realised that her precious object was missing. Her daughter immediately called the police, who launched a search.
The famous mattress was eventually found, along with the money and valuables.
