Donald Trump's campaign team announced on Friday that it had raised more than $50 million in online donations within 24 hours of his criminal conviction, asserting that the verdict had galvanised support "like never before."
This equates to "over $2 million per hour," according to a statement from the campaign team.
Within minutes of the verdict's announcement, the campaign's digital fundraising system was swamped by supporters, stated campaign advisors Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles on Friday morning.
Despite temporary delays due to online traffic, they said that the former president had raised $34.8 million through small donations. By Friday evening, this figure had surged to a staggering $52.8 million.
The morning figure alone nearly doubled the best single-day fundraising figure for the campaign on WinRed, the right-wing Republican party's official donation platform. They revealed that 30% of these donations were made by first-time donors.
"Joe [Biden] the fraudster and the Democrats, with their witch hunt, have roused the 'Make America Great Again' [Donald Trump's slogan] movement like never before," enthused the campaign advisors.

Donald Trump was found guilty on all charges in a criminal trial in New York on Thursday, marking the first such case for a former US president. He was accused of falsifying documents to conceal payments intended to silence a former porn star.
Judge Juan Merchan set the sentencing date for 11 July.
