Brussels Airlines and all other Lufthansa Group airlines have suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv in Israel and Tehran in Iran until 19 September.

Brussels Airlines flights to and from Tel Aviv on 18 and 19 September have been cancelled. All Lufthansa Group airlines will avoid Israeli and Iranian airspace during the same period.

In a statement published on Tuesday, the airline promised to inform passengers about cancellations as quickly as possible. People whose flights are affected can rebook for a later travel date at no extra cost or receive a full refund.

Lufthansa Group says it will closely monitor and reevaluate the situation in the coming days.

Other airlines follow suit

The flight suspensions follow an incident in Lebanon on Tuesday, when hundreds of pagers used by members of the Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah exploded simultaneously. At least nine people died and around 2,800 more were injured. Hezbollah attributed the attack to Israel.

British Airways has also suspended flights to Israel. Air France has done the same for flights to Tel Aviv and Beirut until at least Thursday, citing "security concerns".

"Due to security concerns, Air France is suspending its flights between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Beirut (Lebanon) and between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Tel Aviv (Israel) until 19 September 2024," the French airline stated.

Daily assesments will determine whether or not operations will resume, Air France added. The airline is monitoring the geopolitical environment continuously to ensure maximum safety for its passengers.

Air France had previously suspended flights to these destinations due to escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
