In his opening speech before the 20th party congress of the Communist Party of China, President Xi Jinping welcomed the “transition from chaos to governance” in the semi-autonomous region of Hong Kong.
He also condemned foreign interference in Taiwan, the island that is still seen by Beijing as a renegade province. The president also defended the coronavirus policy in his country.
"We have fought resolutely against separatism and opinion. We have shown our determination and ability to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity and to oppose the independence of Taiwan,” said the Chinese leader.
Xi also stated that his country puts people and human lives first in fighting the corona pandemic. Beijing has protected “the safety and health” of the population as much as possible. He spoke of positive results by coordinating the prevention and management of the epidemic with economic and social developments.
