The 86-year-old former head of Italy’s government Silvio Berlusconi has been hospitalised in intensive care with a heart problem, a source close to the politician business tycoon told AFP on Wednesday.
Silvio Berlusconi is undergoing heart surgery at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, the source added, confirming Italian media reports.
Italian news agency Ansa reported that this is a new admission for the former prime minister, who had been discharged on 30 March from the same hospital.
Berlusconi had previously been hospitalised in January 2022, when he underwent a series of eight-day check-ups at the San Raffaele Hospital.
About a year and a half earlier, he had suffered some serious complications related to Covid, which he described as 'the worst experience' of his life.
Contracted in September 2020, the virus had forced him to be hospitalised for almost two weeks, and he had to return to hospital for almost a month, until May 2021, due to the after-effects of the disease.
