At least 5,200 people have died as a result of flooding caused by Storm Daniel, according to the Libyan Interior Ministry on Tuesday.
Storm Daniel hit eastern Libya on Sunday afternoon. In the city of Derna, on the border with Egypt, two dams burst and large parts of the city were swept away by the mass of water.
It is believed that 25% of the city has been wiped out, the BBC reports.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) had warned that there could be thousands of deaths and that almost 10,000 people were currently missing.
