Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Friday to increase the number of Russian soldiers by 15%.
The cause of this surge was attributed to “rising threats” due to the conflict in Ukraine.
As a result, the Russian army is now required to have 2.2 million members, including 1.32 million soldiers, according to the decree published by the government.
Previously, a decree issued in August 2022 had set the army’s size at 2 million, including 1.15 million soldiers. This signifies a sharp increase in numbers within a short period.
