Wildfires in the US state of California have already burned an area of 112 square kilometres, according to CNN based on information from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The fires in Los Angeles have claimed five lives and destroyed hundreds of homes. Strong winds and low humidity are hampering firefighters' efforts.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has mobilised over 7,500 firefighters and first responders to combat the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, he announced on Thursday.
"California has thousands of people on the ground to fight the fires. The state is leaving no stone unturned to protect Californian communities," said Governor Newsom.
The wildfires are actually comprised of six different fires. The Palisades Fire, the Hurst Fire, the Woodley Fire, the Eaton Fire, and the Lidia Fire preceded the Hollywood Hills fire, known as the Sunset Fire, which began on Wednesday evening. The Palisades Fire has consumed 64 square kilometres. The Eaton Fire has burned through 42 square kilometres.
The Hurst Fire, Lidia Fire, and Sunset Fire have respectively scorched 346 hectares, 141 hectares, and 24 hectares. These fires are not yet under control. The Woodley Fire has been contained to an area of 12 hectares.
