US President Donald Trump threatened Russia with new banking sanctions and tariffs on Friday, condemning ongoing bombings in Ukraine.

"Given that Russia is currently bombarding Ukraine on the battlefield, I am strongly considering extensive banking sanctions, penalties, and tariffs against Russia until a ceasefire and a definitive peace agreement are reached," Trump wrote on social media.

"To Russia and Ukraine, meet at the negotiation table now, before it’s too late. Thank you!" he added.

On Friday, Russia launched a massive drone and missile attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, prompting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to call for a truce in the air and at sea once again.

During this combined attack, Ukraine was targeted by at least 58 missiles and 194 Russian drones, according to the Ukrainian military.

The American president ordered a pause in US military aid to Ukraine on Monday, following his dramatic altercation with Zelensky last Friday.

He also initiated an unprecedented rapprochement with Vladimir Putin’s Russia while stating he wants to keep pressure on Moscow.

American and Ukrainian delegations are scheduled to meet in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to discuss a framework for a peace agreement, according to Washington. US and Russian representatives had previously met in Saudi Arabia for negotiations.
