Pope Francis expressed that he feels “weakened” and “facing a trial” in a message of thanks to the faithful, broadcast on Sunday from a hospital in Rome where he has been receiving treatment for over a month due to double pneumonia.
“I am facing a trial and I join many brothers and sisters who are sick and fragile at this moment, like me. Our bodies are weakened but, even so, nothing can stop us from loving, praying, giving ourselves, and being signs of hope for each other in faith,” wrote the Pope in this Angelus message published by the Vatican.
The Pope, who is 88 years old, has been hospitalised since 14 February due to double pneumonia. His condition remained critical for a long time, but according to the Vatican, his life is no longer in danger.
According to the latest medical bulletin published on Saturday night, the Pope must remain in hospital to continue his therapy despite a gradual improvement in his health.
Francis also expressed gratitude to the hospital staff who have been caring for him for over a month. “May light shine brightly in hospitals and places of care! May affectionate care illuminate the rooms, corridors, operating theatres, and places where the humblest care is provided!”
