The handbag of US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem was stolen on Sunday at a restaurant in Washington, D.C., according to reports in the US media on Monday.
The handbag contained $3,000 in cash, identification documents, house keys, and a security pass for the Department of Homeland Security, the department confirmed.
The theft occurred in a hamburger restaurant while Noem was dining with family members.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows a masked man taking the bag and leaving the restaurant. In a statement to NBC News, Noem said an investigation is underway.
Noem plays a significant role in the immigration policy of US President Donald Trump, which includes mass deportations of undocumented migrants.
