A fire that broke out at a warehouse in Brucargo on Thursday, Zaventem airport's freight section, was fully contained on Friday morning.

The fire began around 16:00 in Gosselin Logistics and spread rapidly. Surrounding warehouses and company buildings were evacuated as a precaution and a significant safety perimeter was established.

The fire's smoke drifted over several local neighbourhoods, leading local authorities in Machelen and Steenokkerzeel to advise residents to keep their doors and windows closed.

Firefighters worked tirelessly to combat the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings. The warehouse where the fire originated was largely destroyed by flames. Later that evening, the 4,000-square-metre building's roof collapsed.

Firefighters' efforts continued into the night. The collapsed roof was cleared with civil protection and specialist company assistance, enabling the extinguishing of the final few hotspots.

By 06:00 on Friday the fire had been completely put out and the safety perimeter lifted. However, the cause of the fire is still yet to be established.
