Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has set a sales record in the second quarter of 2024, selling nearly one million cars.
This figure includes both hybrid and fully electric vehicles. About 426,000 were purely electric.
The market leader’s sales were boosted by reduced prices across all models.
This marks the first time that BYD has exported more than 100,000 cars in a quarter.
However, BYD’s global ambitions – becoming a key sponsor of the European Football Championship – might be in jeopardy in Europe and the United States, due to possible tax hikes on cars made in China.
