The Dutch subsidiary of fashion chain Esprit was declared bankrupt on Friday by a court in Amsterdam, leading to the loss of over 200 jobs.

Earlier this week, the chain's last 17 actively operating Dutch stores were closed, following the initiation of bankruptcy proceedings by the parent company, Hong Kong-based Esprit Holdings.

A suspension of payment was granted to the Dutch subsidiary.

Despite this measure, the court has finally pronounced bankruptcy. According to curator Erik Schuurs, reviving the subsidiary is not feasible at the moment.

However, the Dutch online store, managed from Germany, will remain open.

Esprit’s Belgian subsidiary was declared bankrupt in April by a commercial court in Antwerp, resulting in the closure of all its self-owned stores and the loss of 148 jobs.

The ten Belgian franchise stores, on the other hand, continue to operate alongside the online store.
