Friday (today) has broken the record for the warmest 25 October in Belgium. The last record dates back to 75 years ago.

Belgium is experiencing the warmest 25 October since records began in 1892, the Royal Meteorological Institute's (RMI) weather reporter David Dehenauw confirmed on social media on Friday.

At around 14:45, the temperature in Uccle – where the RMI's main weather station is located – was 19.4°C. This is 0.2°C higher than the last record of 19.2°C, set on 25 October 1949.

Translation: "Just now, it was 19.4°C in Uccle. The daily record from 1949 (19.2°C) is thus history. [The] final result [will be] known later."

The RMI predicted that temperatures would be up to 20°C on Friday in the centre and north of the country. Saturday is expected to be another sunny, unusually warm day, with temperatures of up to 20°C. From Sunday, the skies will be more overcast, and temperatures will drop to a more autumnal 15°C in the centre of Belgium.

This does not mark the first time in recent years that the weather in Belgium has been unusually warm in October. The first ten days of October last year were the warmest and driest recorded, with an average temperature of 16.6°C compared to the normal average of 12.5°C. Meanwhile, in 2022, it was as warm as 22°C on 28 October as the country experienced an Indian summer.

The start of this October was also warmer than usual, with temperatures soaring to 23°C.
