A suspect involved in the Brussels terror attack on 16 October 2023, which claimed the lives of two Swedish football fans, has been arrested at Malaga Airport, Spanish police and the Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office announced on Saturday.

Belgian authorities believe this man supplied the firearm used by the attacker.

Just after 19:00 on 16 October 2023, Tunisian national Abdesalem Lassoued opened fire on a taxi near Place Sainctelette, killing two Swedish football supporters. The fans were in Brussels to support their national team at a match against Belgium at the King Baudouin Stadium. A third passenger, a Swedish man around 70 years old, was seriously injured in the vehicle.

The assailant was shot dead by police the following day at a café in Schaerbeek.

The suspect believed to have supplied the attacker's firearm was apprehended on Friday at Malaga Airport in Spain as he prepared to board a flight out of the country.

He faces life imprisonment as he was wanted by Belgian authorities for terrorist attacks, murders and assault.

The Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the individual was arrested in connection with the attack on 16 October 2023.

A Belgian investigating judge had issued a European arrest warrant against him. The suspect's extradition has been requested so that he can be questioned by a Belgian investigating judge.

No further information will be provided at this time, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
