Over 80% of the 131 shisha bars inspected in 2024 were found to be in violation by the Ministry of Public Health, according to figures published on Wednesday by L’Avenir.
The main issues were the sale of non-compliant tobacco products and breaches of smoking bans.
Smoking tobacco is allowed in shisha bars, but only outside or in a designated smoking room with a smoke extraction system and restricted space, as mandated by the tobacco regulations.
The Ministry of Public Health noted that checks revealed 106 establishments violated the smoking ban legislation.
Inspectors also found that 107 bars had non-compliant tobacco products.
Other infractions included non-compliant smoking rooms, improper tobacco labelling and illegal tobacco advertising.
