The identification app Itsme had a record-breaking year in 2024 in terms of traffic and financial results, the company announced on Tuesday.
Itsme is an online application that allows Belgian residents to identify themselves securely when accessing online profiles relating to finance, health and other sensitive areas.
Seven and a half years after its launch, the app has been installed on the phones of over seven million people in Belgium. The number of users increases by 40,000 to 50,000 every month.
On average, 1.3 million identification actions are performed with Itsme each day, reaching 473 million in 2024. This marks an increase of nearly 30% compared to the previous year. The number of digital signatures grew by more than 50% compared to last year; in 2024, 2.2 million qualified electronic signatures were made with Itsme. These signatures hold the same legal value as handwritten ones, according to the app.
Soaring profits
This success translates into improved financial results, with Itsme expecting to close 2024 with a profit of €5.4 million compared to €1.6 million the previous year.
The year 2024 also allowed Itsme to confirm a three-year collaboration with the authorities by renewing its accreditation as an official login tool for government platforms.
In addition, the app has expanded into new sectors such as logistics. Belgian postal service Bpost uses the platform for users to access registered mail and delivery preferences. It has also expanded into the sports realm with a partnership with the Pro League to access stadiums.
"2024 was a remarkable year, not only because of our strong growth, but also because we managed to enter new markets with huge growth potential, thanks to innovative extensions of our existing applications," said Itsme CEO Stephanie De Bruyne.
