If elections were held today, Vlaams Belang (VB) would become the largest party in Belgium, according to a new poll by Het Laatste Nieuws, VTM NIEUWS, RTL and Le Soir.
Open VLD would garner just 6% of the vote, perilously close to the electoral threshold.
The poll shows that Vlaams Belang has overtaken the Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie (N-VA), obtaining 25.7% of voting intentions.
CD&V and Groen lose ground
The N-VA secured 25.5%, matching its previous election result of 25.6%.
Vooruit showed improvement, polling 14.3%, compared to 13% in June, while the Christen Democratisch en Vlaams (CD&V) party dropped from 12.8% to 11.7%.
The Belgian Workers Party (Partij van de Arbeid, PvdA) has overtaken Open VLD. It was the choice of 10% would-be voters, up from 8.2% in June.
Groen, for its part, fell from 7.5% to 6.6%.
PS once again the largest party in Wallonia
In Wallonia, the Parti Socialiste (PS) regained its position as the largest party, with 25.8%, followed by the Mouvement Réformateur (MR), with 24.8% and Les Engagés (18.5%).
The Belgian Workers Party (Parti du Travail belge, PTB) rose sharply to 17.4% from 11.6% in June, while Ecolo trailed, on 7.8%.
Prime Minister Bart De Wever (N-VA) remains the politician whom Flemish people feel best represents them, followed by VB chairman Tom Van Grieken and Vooruit chair Conner Rousseau.
Sophie Wilmès, Wallonia's favourite politician
In Brussels and Wallonia, MR Europarliamentarian Sophie Wilmès is the favourite, followed by PTB chairman Raoul Hedebouw and PS chair Paul Magnette.
The poll was conducted by Ipsos online between 4 and 11 March among 2,600 Belgians aged 18 and over. Of these 1,000 were Flemings, 1,000 Walloons and 600 Brussels residents.
The maximum margin of error is 3.1% in Flanders, 3.1% in Wallonia and 4.0% in Brussels.
