The 24th edition of the Dinant Jazz Festival will take place from 25 to 27 July in the Leffe Abbey Park, organisers announced on Friday.

American guitarist and composer John Scofield, who gained fame with Miles Davis' orchestra and has been an influential jazz guitarist for over 20 years, will be the patron of this edition. "He will perform with his group on Saturday and play a few pieces with saxophonist Joe Lovano on Sunday," explained Jean-Claude Laloux, the festival director.

A pre-festival evening dedicated to saxophonist and flutist Steve Houben will be held on 24 July, featuring a documentary screening followed by a concert from his son, Greg Houben.

The inaugural evening will kick off with the 2024 young talent competition winner, saxophonist Yonatan Hes. "To close this first night, we will celebrate David Linx's 60th birthday," Laloux continued. On Saturday, Pauline Leblond will present her new album in a premiere. Another celebration will be held for Grégoire Maret's 50th birthday, with some surprises in store.

"On Sunday, our traditional Gospel Mass will be celebrated by one of our three honorary presidents, Father Augustin. The gospel group Bloom for Love, directed by Anna Winkin, will be joined by some guests. The collection from this Mass will go to the Hôpiclown association we support."

In the afternoon, pianist Hasan Basar will perform for the first time in Belgium, and Philip Catherine will present a duo with Belgian guitarist Nicolas Fiszman.

Honorary president Jacques Mercier will host the concerts over the three days.

"There is something for everyone; it's an impressive line-up. There are young talents, new discoveries, and duos you won't see anywhere else but at the Dinant Jazz Festival," concluded Jean-Claude Laloux.
