Six people were killed on Thursday when a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River in New York, according to CBS News citing police sources.
The accident occurred around 15:15 local time near Jersey City, west of New York City.
The victims were a Spanish family, including three children, and the pilot.
Police confirmed that three adults and three children were on board the helicopter. All six bodies were recovered from the water.
Witnesses told CBS News they saw parts of the helicopter fall apart in the air before it crashed into the water.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the crash.
The Bell 206 helicopter had taken off from Manhattan and was heading towards several tourist attractions such as Governors Island, the Statue of Liberty, and the George Washington Bridge.
Tourist helicopters frequently fly over the river.
"Terrible helicopter crash in the Hudson River. The images of the accident are horrifying," US President Donald Trump said on social media.
