French cruise ship to serve as hotel during World Cup in Qatar

MSC World Europa, the first French-made ship to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG), was delivered in Saint-Nazaire, France, on Monday.

The luxury vessel will depart as early as Wednesday for Qatar, where it will serve as a hotel during football World Cup 2022.

The 333-metre-long ship, ordered in June 2018 by Swiss cruise line MSC, can accommodate up to 6,700 passengers. It is the cruise ship with proportionately the lowest CO2 emissions in the entire world, according to director Laurent Castaing of the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard.

In Qatar, the ship will serve as a hotel during the World Cup.

The cruise line already delivered two ships to Qatar and to the world football federation, FIFA. In the first two weeks of the tournament, they will be full, so a third, smaller, boat will be added.
