The Brussels public transport operator STIB is preparing to recruit an additional 600 employees at the start of the year, RTBF reports. Further positions will be filled later in the year.
STIB is continuing to expand its activities and is a leading employer within the Belgian capital. The transport company is planning to increase the frequency of routes, introduce new lines, trams, metros, and electric buses, as well as new signalling systems and depots for the electrification of its fleet.
Most of these 600 positions are for transport operators. STIB is looking for more than 200 bus drivers, 130 tram drivers, and around 50 metro drivers, as well as security personnel. Recruits will be trained in-house and paid during their training, which lasts between five and nine weeks.
In addition to drivers, STIB is also actively looking for workers in technical fields, in particular IT, engineering, and construction graduates. These new hires will contribute towards the company’s transformation of pre-metro connections between the Albert and Gare du Nord Station, as well as new signalling along the lines.

To attract these in-demand profiles, the company launched a “Young Starter” program in 2017. This allows young workers, with little to no professional experience, to carry out three eight-month assignments within the company, in three different departments, allowing candidates to choose a sector suited to them.
More information about job vacancies can be found on the Brussels transport company’s official website.
Belgian rail company SNCB is also planning to aggressively recruit at the start of 2023. In total, 1,600 job offers will be posted, mostly for customer-facing positions. SNCB is also looking for technical profiles, including 300 technicians, and architects.
