After more than 40 years of inactivity, the scaffolding on the Palais de Justice facade on the side of Place Poelaert will finally be removed from 2024, as the public contract for the restoration has officially been approved.
The Federal Government on Friday approved the public contract for the restoration of the façade on the Poelaert side of the Palais de Justice in Brussels, announced State Secretary Mathieu Michel, who is in charge of the Buildings Agency.
"The Brussels Justice Palace is an icon of our heritage, but also of our democracy. It is therefore unacceptable that it has been in disrepair for 40 years. This situation is bad not only for our fellow citizens, but for the whole world," said Michel.

As he made the restoration of the building – and therefore the removal of the scaffolding – a priority during his mandate, the restoration project is progressing day by day. "In 2024, we will remove the first scaffolding from the facade on the Place Poelaert side," Michel said.
At the end of April, the City of Brussels delivered the building permit. The award of the public contract for the restoration work means that the major project can now enter the operational phase.
