A driver was recorded speeding at 388 km/hr on a Belgian motorway in 2022.
The recorded speed was the adjusted figure, with the actual dashboard reading probably reaching 413 km/hr, according to La Dernière Heure.
The federal police declined to comment when contacted by the newspaper, stating that they were unable to disclose the exact location of the incident due to an ongoing investigation.
Based on the description of the road and surrounding region, they did however reveal that the offence took place on a Flemish motorway.
Travelling at such speeds can have deadly consequences as any slight deviation in driving or unexpected obstacles could become fatal.
At 413 km/hr, a car travels 114 metres per second. La Dernière Heure notes that it would take approximately 1.6 km for an average car fitted with standard brakes to come to a stop.
