Belgium’s largest parcel delivery companies will now have to be transparent about their environmental and climate efforts.
This follows a decision taken by Belgium’s Federal Government following a proposition by the Minister for Postal Services, Petra De Sutter.
This obligation will apply to all companies employing more than 250 people, which currently represents 90% of the Belgian market.
In practice, these companies will have to report on their websites and to the IBPT (the regulatory body for telecommunications) about their environmental impact and their climate change mitigation efforts.
In addition, the Council of Ministers has approved a preliminary draft of a law aiming to improve the working conditions for parcel deliverers in Belgium.
Key provisions of the text include the imposition of a minimum wage, and a ban on offering, providing or having parcels delivered for a compensation that does not adhere to a minimum hourly rate.
Lastly, the text introduces a limit on distribution hours as an additional measure to improve working conditions.
