At the Port of Antwerp, passengers can ride the ferry for free between 7:00-9:00 and 16:00-18:00.
The route between the bridge of the Houtlaan in Wijnegem and the Porthouse on the Eilandje has plenty of traffic from tourists and the elderly during the day, but during morning and evening rush hours there are too few passengers, New Mobility reported.
Additionally, the ferry will be helpful when work begins on the Osterweel connection, which goes from the northeastern edge of Antwerp into the city. The roadwork is predicted to cause congestion.
Ferry tickets usually cost 5 euro. They will be free for the next six months.
